Dear fellow Christians,

Although several years ago I called Jeff Walling and left messages
concerning some of the issues others across the country have
had with Jeff, but he did not return my calls.
Although we are commanded to forgive others trespasses,
there comes a time when we are ordered by the Lord to
rebuke those who are contrary in the presence of all.
The sad fact is that some of Jeff Walling's views walk on faithful
church members faithfully attending their churches, and actually
cause the kind of division God's word says and admonishes to avoid
such persons who cause this division.
" You will know them by their fruits." - Jesus Christ
I was a member of another local Orange County church who
attended singles events at Jeff's church and house now and then.
A'though Jeff Walling has for years used an attracting humor and
drama in his sermons, I have ( had ) seen in the 80's the fruit of
Jeff's humor that folks were attracted to :
An over emphasis by others of Jeff Walling.
An over abundance of rude, insolent, un - Christain conduct by
youth and young singles toward me by an unusual number of such
folks who attended Jeff's young adults singles group at his home and
youth rallies locally. Most of such conduct came from ones who grew
up in the church and attended Jeff's church and single functions.
I had also been the recipient of such conduct from
Jeff during the early 80's ( 81 - 82 ' ) of which I can recall word
for word, words by Jeff that were totally uncalled for, undeserved,
callous, and wreckless. This was the funny humourous from the pulpit
youth minister. In early 1999 or early 2000', I contacted one
person , set up a meeting, and I took it to my Brother and told
it to him and him alone as Jesus said to do.
I was told by one female member at a Jeff Walling Big Bear
retreat in 1982 , " You have so much love in you." So as to
my Christian attitude and conduct over the years and at the
present: I know where I am in the Lord.
I had attended numerous youth rallies with his church
( even drove the youth van ) and attended single I attended Jeff's
church in Garden Grove California for 6 years 1983 - 1989. Jeff
left to be minister at the Mission Viejo shortly after I had moved
to his church's city and placed membership there simply because I
had moved.

Will modern gimmicks work to bring others to Christ ?
Some are great tools for the outreach of the Gospel
such as the internet.
How about too much emphasize on ' Oh he's a
good / great speaker ', resulting in exalting the
preacher over Christ ? I have seen the fruit of that
mentality in the early 80's and it was unkind !
Question : Why a 5,000 member church of Christ in Texas ?
It is the spoken word of God through Jesus Christ and his blood
which saves men, and Christians willing to be used of the Lord
for his work, glory and purpose.
Do blue power point screens work in the worship hall of a
church as a main method to grow churches ? As Paul
the Apostle wrote, " I planted, Apollos watered, but God
gave the increase." It was not power point screens in
the worship hall in the early church which resulted
in God giving the increase in numbers of souls being
saved !
I present that the huge blue power point screens used to present
songs for the congregations are actually a distraction and
are weakening the song service - worship. How and why ?
After experiencing these screens in at least four Churches of Christ :
Mission Viejo , Redlands, Riverside to Whittier in Los Angeles County,
this has been my experience. These screens emerged in early
2000's, and I had been to many churches of Christ before 2000
being baptized into the Lord with a Church of Christ in early 1981.
Too many youth group type songs are being presented in the
worship service on the screens, while traditional, awesome and
powerful gospel songs are being left out. I believe this is the case
with the youth group songs because a main promoter across
the U.S. for the of the use of the screens is former Garden Grove
Calif. Newland St. Church Of Christ Youth minister Jeff Walling
of North Carolina. I may be wrong about why so many youth group
songs are used, but this is my observation.
Yes, I see that too many youth group / campfire type songs
are being used in the main worship service. How does this go for
the elderly and family aged folks ?
It should also be noted that because of songs being presented
on the power point screen, folks are not using the songbooks. I
see this as a negative.
In his 'Change' video , Jeff Walling makes some good points on
engaging in the culture's methods and finding various tools such as
inviting association groups to use church building for their events in
order to reach others with the Gospel. He uses pitchers from various
ages - Early Christian era pottery then to modern plastic, pouring water
( the truth , the Gospel message ) into
the pitchers.
But in my view Walling goes to far when he says "What should a
man say to his wife when she says she does not like the power point
screen ?" Jeff's answer to his question is: " So what ? !" He's telling church
members to tell those they encounter who don't like the blue power
point screens to say, " So what ?! "
This is just not right. God's word says" Husbands love your wives ... "
He's telling husbands to tell their wives
"So what ? ! " if their wives say they don't like the power point screens
and ' praise teams ' that go along with it as song worship method.
As I point out in this blog, there are significant flaws and negative
effects of both the praise team use and power point screen use,
especially with the power point screen use. It appears Walling is
truly pushing the power point screens and ' praise teams ' with a
noticeable and inappropriate force on individuals and congregations,
going as far as disrespecting elders, promoting rudeness and
inconsideration towards individual persons, and congregations
in his movement. This is my sincere observation.
In addition, he says in the video about the churches way things
are done now that others will say about the individual churches,
" Wow , That's a cool museum " unless churches take on what
Jeff is saying.
He also uses impressions of elderly or older folks to make the point
of elderly older folks such as elders in a church opposing to bringing
change, which in my observation is plain disrespectful on Jeff Walling's
part.
The truth :
Teaching members to reach out with the word of God will save
souls, and the Lord will add them to his church. If a church is
not doing this, churches fade. It is about love.
Ok, I have observed in churches I have been to
since the mid 80's : Some Churches of Christ have at
various times have not emphasized exhorting doing good
works of compassion and teaching personal evangelism.
This could be said of churches at any time in history.
Church's elders need encouragement. Members need
exhortation and encouragement in love . Sometimes they need
pricking of the heart and chastisement in love by their OWN
elders. Elders should be loved and encouraged, not torn down
and embarrassed.
" Now abide faith, hope, love, these three, but
the greatest of these is love." - 1 Corinthians 13
It was the power of God, by the Holy Spirit by the love
of Christ through the disciples, his people - that turned
the world upside down as described in the book of Acts.
It is ordained of God that his people use their talents
to further the Lord's will for his Kingdom. God's word
instructs us to be like Jesus to love and serve others,
which is to love his people and those who in fact are
not Christians. God's word instructs us that this is for
his glory and the benefit of others. The Bible says,
" Therefore as we have opportunity , let us do good
unto all men, especially to them that are of the
household of faith."
To love is to have compassion and help others. Jesus
said, " Sick and ye' visited me not." " Inasmuch as you
did it to the least of these my Brethren you did it unto
me."
God's word speaks about so called faithful who's lack of love
failed to meet the Lord's measure of acceptability, " The love
of many will grow cold."
In a sermon in 2003, preacher Jimmy Gaston gave a sermon
on love. He said that " When people know that God is love,
they will come to church."
During a 2011 sermon, the preacher of a church of Christ
said that the number one reason people on the whole gave as a
criteria for attending any particular church was if that church
cared. In other words, whether a church was a caring loving
church made the difference whether or not folks planted
themselves there and attended on a regular basis. Love is
the basis of the two greatest commandments of God.
As Jesus says, the greatest commandment is " You shall
love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all
your soul, and with all your mind, and with all your strength,
and the second is this, " You shall love your neighbor as yourself. "
In the book of Revelation, God's word speaks of a lamp stand
being taken away, the lamp stand of a church. Could this be
because God's instruction of love did not stand, last, or take
hold ?
The Son of God Jesus Christ came to save the world from
their sins, giving the abundant life in this life and giving
eternal life to those who will hear the Lord and follow him.
We know this by the account of the angel telling Mary,
" You shall call his name Jesus, for he shall save his people
from their sins."
Jesus says, " Follow me." and " For God
so loved the world that he gave his only begotten Son , that
whosoever would believe in him should not perish but have
everlasting life."
Do we see membership drop in a church because God's
instruction on love is not taught and practiced enough
as God wills ?
Is God unhappy with your church because leaders,
teachers, and even elders have lost the message and do not
use and teach God's inspired word of Jesus's example and
teaching of the Apostle's on love being taught and translated
into action by members, that is, for God's glory and the
benefit of others through his people ?
" Be transformed by the renewing of your mind " the Bible says
in the New Testament. " Jesus says, " If any man wishes to be my
disciple, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me."
Jesus says, " You must be born again, or you will in no wise
enter into the Kingdom of heaven."
Jesus taught by example, miracles and word that his people
are to have compassion on those who are sick, in need, and
are hurting emotionally whether through loss or loneliness.
Jesus speaks to us in John 13: 34- 35 about love towards one
another as Christians : " A new commandment I give to you,
that you love one another, even as I have loved you, that you
also love one for another. By this shall all men know that you
are my disciples, if you have love one for another."
We are to have the desire to seek and save the lost, those
who are lost in their sin who are receiving the result, the
negative consequences of practicing sin in this life through
ignorance and the love of sin.
